Senegal-Rwanda is a longer trip than most African corridors, but Dakar-Kigali traffic has grown steadily â driven by visa-free entry on the Senegalese passport, the growing diaspora-and-business corridor, and a small but active West African community in Kigali. This is the complete 2026 guide.
Visa â none required
Senegalese passport holders enter Rwanda visa-free for up to 30 days under the African Union framework. No fee. Standard documents: passport, return ticket, proof of accommodation. Yellow fever certificate required from Senegal.
Getting to Kigali
- Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa. Dakar (DKR) â Addis â Kigali. Most-used routing. ~14-18 hours total. Round-trip economy typically XOF 900,000-1,800,000.
- Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca. Dakar â Casablanca â Kigali. Often the most-affordable option.
- Air France via Paris. For Dakarois travellers heading to Europe first.
- Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. Worth checking for competitive fares.
- Kenya Airways via Nairobi. Useful when combining a Kenya trip.
Currency and money
Rwanda uses the Rwandan Franc (RWF). Cross-rate: roughly 2 RWF per West African CFA (XOF 1,000 = ~2,200 RWF). Senegalese Visa/Mastercard debit cards work at Bank of Kigali, Equity, KCB ATMs. Bring USD or EUR cash as backup.
