Rwanda's safari-lodge bracket has grown quickly in the past five years. The top-tier properties — Singita Kwitonda, Bisate, One&Only, Magashi — compete with the best of Tanzania and Kenya. The mid-luxury bracket has solid options at meaningfully more accessible prices. Below is the working 2026 list across all three park regions.

Volcanoes National Park — gorilla lodges

Top tier (USD 1,500+ per night)

  • Singita Kwitonda Lodge. USD 2,500-3,200 per night, all-inclusive. The newest premium opener (2019). Volcanic-themed villas, spa, gorilla-permit assistance, all-inclusive game-drive-style logistics.
  • Bisate Lodge (Wilderness). USD 1,800-2,400 per night. Sustainability-led design — six guest pods inspired by traditional Rwandan king's palace architecture. Reforestation project on the property.
  • One&Only Gorilla's Nest. USD 1,800-2,500 per night. The polished international-brand opener (2019). Lavish villas, multiple dining options.
  • Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. USD 700-1,000 per night. Long-running luxury — the established premium option before the newer entrants. Community-owned partnership model.

Mid-luxury (USD 300-700 per night)

  • Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. USD 350-550 per night. Consistently strong reviews across multiple years. Family-friendly, fireplace cottages.
  • Virunga Lodge. USD 350-600 per night. Twin Lakes views, hilltop position.

Mid-market (USD 100-250 per night, in Musanze town)

  • Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel. USD 150-250 per night. The most-reviewed Musanze town hotel.
  • Da Vinci Hotel. USD 80-150 per night.
  • Volcanoes Hotel and Resort. USD 70-140 per night.

Akagera National Park — savanna safari

Top tier

  • Magashi Camp (Wilderness). USD 1,500-2,800 per night, all-inclusive. Premium tented camp on Lake Rwanyakizinga. Six tents, full safari programme.

Mid-luxury

  • Ruzizi Tented Lodge (African Parks). USD 350-700 per night. The community-and-conservation-focused mid-tier. Tented but full beds and bathrooms. Strong eco-credentials.
  • Karenge Bush Camp. USD 300-500 per night. Smaller, more rustic; closer to game.

Near-park hotels (more budget-friendly)

  • Akagera Game Lodge. USD 150-300 per night.
  • Akagera Bird Lodge. USD 80-150 per night.

Nyungwe Forest — rainforest lodges

  • One&Only Nyungwe House. USD 1,500-2,200 per night, all-inclusive. The premium Nyungwe lodge — tea-plantation setting, top-tier spa, primate-trek logistics.
  • Nyungwe Forest Lodge. USD 350-650 per night. The mid-luxury default — established, consistently well-reviewed.
  • Top View Hotel. USD 100-200 per night. Affordable Nyungwe-adjacent option.
  • Gisakura Guest House. USD 60-130 per night. Budget-friendly near the park gate.

How to choose

  1. For a one-night gorilla-trek base: Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge — premium experience without the very-top-tier price.
  2. For a wedding-anniversary / once-in-a-lifetime trip: Singita Kwitonda or Bisate — the experience justifies the price.
  3. For a multi-park luxury safari combining everything: Magashi (Akagera) + Singita Kwitonda (Volcanoes) + One&Only Nyungwe House. Three properties; one trip.
  4. For a budget-conscious gorilla weekend: Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel in Musanze town. Same trek experience; meaningfully lower accommodation cost.
  5. For a real Akagera Big Five safari: Magashi if budget allows; Ruzizi Tented Lodge for the mid-tier alternative.
  6. For the canopy walk and chimps at Nyungwe: Nyungwe Forest Lodge for value; One&Only Nyungwe House for premium.

Booking logistics

  • Premium lodges (Singita, Bisate, One&Only, Magashi) book 6-12 months ahead for July-September peak. Outside peak, 2-3 months ahead is usually enough.
  • Most lodges include or arrange gorilla-permit handling — confirm at booking. Don't book the permit yourself if the lodge offers the service.
  • All-inclusive vs B&B: Most premium safari lodges are all-inclusive (meals, drinks, activities, transport to park HQ). Mid-tier lodges often B&B with paid extras.
  • Multi-property packages: Wilderness, African Parks, and One&Only all offer multi-property packages combining their lodges across the country.
