“We stayed at Des Milles Collines in early January 2026. We had watched the amazing movie Hotel Rwanda and seeing we had a three night stopover in Kigali, en route to South Africa, we decided to stay at this very famous hotel.
On entering the hotel grounds, we found the building slightly underwhelming. I'm not sure what we expected, but this could easily have been a Holiday Inn.
The reception was very impressive and service was top notch, but our room was slightly dated, although very clean.
The Rwandan people were wonderful. They were friendly and kind and we felt very safe and this friendliness and good nature was evident in all the staff at Des Milles Collines.
The grounds were green, impeccable and stunning and a good sized swimming pool made us very happy with our hotel choice. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and varied, with something for everyone and once again, the staff were an absolute joy.
We ate in the hotel restaurant on a couple of occasions and the food quality was good and the prices reasonable.
Judging simply on the hotel and the value for money, we would give this 4 out of 5, but the sheer attitude and enthusiasm of the staff tipped it over to a full 5.”

“The hotel is conveniently located I'm CBD and I got a room with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. It has a beautiful pool so please carry your costume. I also enjoyed my morning runs around the neighbourhood. I would just be cautious about using their hotel transfers. I wasn't picked up when I arrived despite it being in my booking. They offered me a free return but even then I had to wait 20 minutes for the car to arrive ar the hotel to pick me up. Everything else was very nice.”

“The food was great, and most of the staff were very friendly. However, the manager’s approach felt a bit overwhelming. She walked around closely observing tables without engaging or asking questions, which came across more like supervision than guest service. A simple check-in—asking how the food is or if everything is okay—would feel much more welcoming. Otherwise, it can feel a bit uncomfortable having someone closely watch your plate or drinks.”

“The hotel breathes history in every corner. It's definitely worth the stay - even if you haven't seen the movie. Unfortunately it is looking more and more like a USA-hotel. Why? Keep your style, celebrate your tradition - and don't turn generic...”
