A true gem, an oasis of a boutique hotel. My sister and I stayed at Amata twice while traveling in and out of Kigali. The proprietors Charlotte and Francine awaited us at each check in and were so kind. The staff was exceptional, friendly, helpful. The whole experience was nothing short of exquisite. 10 out of 5 stars! I hope to return ;—)

It's very pressure to be with there I appreciate. It's a beautiful place that anyone would want to relax in, regardless of their job or vocation.

Although my wife said she'd give this place 3 stars, I think it's worth just about 4. The lobby and common areas are very nice. The pool, albeit SUPER cold in the winter (too cold to reasonably swim)-- is a really nice backdrop for their little restaurant--and it's a great feeling to know they're cooking just for you and maybe the few other people who may show up on any given day --since the place only has a handful of rooms. The food is also quite good-- not amazing but quite good--- Staff is a mix between nice and hospitable---and quiet and shy---but never rude. We had two rooms and the AC was pretty ineffective in both. We had to ask for things like hair dryers to be brought to the room and they were forgotten, then brought.... We asked for wash cloths and were brought one single worn cloth with what looked like a brown orange-ish streak stain... Their "car transport service" from the airport is a bit of a ripoff. It's a minimum $25 ride that would cost you barely $2-3 if you just took a taxi from the airport yourself. They don't have their own hotel car. They simply book any ol' taxi for you --and the driver gets paid by them. You could book your own taxi (BUT--charging high US prices to tourists is the "norm" in Kigali so you'd have to negotiate w/ any taxi driver you try to hire- -Still, for a hotel to do this and to try to present it like they have their own "car service" is very unappealing-- They simply call a taxi service and mark up their price about tenfold). Location is in a very nice neighborhood but there's not much around. It'll be a long walk or taxi ride to most of the things you may want to visit in the city of Kigali. Don't get me wrong, we had a lovely stay. --other than those things, it's a really cute boutique hotel--but if they're going to charge tourist prices and cater to Westerners-- they should work on their AC, wash cloths, hair dryers etc; That said, I really don't think most people would be disappointed here... It's rough but charming.
