Kacyiru is the wrong neighbourhood for chain hotels. The Marriott, Radisson, Serena and Park Inn all sit over the hill in Kiyovu, fifteen minutes' drive away. Kacyiru itself is the working district — embassies, the UN cluster, several ministries, the regional NGO offices — and the stays here are calibrated to the visitor who wants to be embedded in that, not commuting to it.
Five Kacyiru stays worth knowing, mostly B&Bs and serviced apartments rather than hotel-format. They're well-rated, they're walkable to the offices most business visitors come for, and they're cheaper than the chains down the hill.

Why Kacyiru has so few hotels
Three reasons:
- Diplomatic-zoning constraints. Several of the streets near the embassy cluster have informal limits on commercial accommodation — for security reasons, not by ordinance. Hotel development concentrated where those constraints didn't apply, which is mostly Kiyovu and Gisimenti.
- Lower visitor density. Most Kacyiru visitors come for specific meetings rather than as part of a tourism plan. The market for chain-scale hotels here is smaller than the market for serviced apartments and B&Bs.
- Workday rhythm. Kacyiru empties at 5pm. The all-day commercial buzz that supports a 200-room hotel — bars, restaurants, weekend traffic — isn't here. The neighbourhood is built around the working week.
When Kacyiru is the right choice
- You have meetings in the diplomatic quarter. Walk-to-the-meeting beats every other consideration.
- You're here for two weeks or more. Serviced apartments make practical sense over hotel rates at that length.
- You want the slower morning. Kacyiru is quieter at 7am than Kiyovu is. The cafés open later; the streets are calmer.
- You're working remotely. The Kacyiru café cluster (Question Coffee, Kivu Noir, Rubia) is the best remote-work environment in the city.
When to pick Kiyovu instead
If your trip is short, if you need the full hotel-services register (concierge, room service, business centre, gym, pool), or if you want to walk to restaurants in the evening — the chain hotels in Kiyovu are the better choice. See our Hotels in Kigali guide for that map.
Practical things
- Drive times. Kacyiru to airport: 15-20 min. To Kiyovu central: 10-15 min. To Kigali Convention Centre: 12 min.
- Pricing. B&B / boutique: 50-110 USD/night. Serviced apartments: 70-150 USD/night for one-bed. Mid-range hotel: 60-100 USD/night.
- Direct booking. All five take direct bookings via WhatsApp from their Kisimenti profiles. Usually 5-10% off OTA rates.
- Breakfast. Almost always included. Reviewers consistently rate the Kacyiru breakfast offerings highly — it's the meal that gets the attention.
- Transport. Yego, Uber, and moto-taxis serve Kacyiru reliably and the rates to other neighbourhoods are short trips.
