“I recently had to do something within the city , famished, I had to google restaurant near me, and had the pleasure of dining at UMUT Cafe & Restaurant, and I have to say ; I loved it! (lol , cos I had no expectations). This Turkish gem in Kigali has definitely earned a spot on my list of good finds in the city. UMUT is located on the Ground Floor of the Chic Building on KN 2 Street, near the city center area. A quick note for first-timers: the location can be a bit tricky to find if you’re driving from the city center, so I’d recommend using GPS or asking locals for “Chic Building” to avoid any confusion. It’s worth the effort to find it though - trust me! The Food - Absolutely Delicious! Let me start with what I ordered: the Hawaii juice and the chicken pasta. The Hawaii juice was refreshing, fruity, and perfectly balanced - exactly what I needed! The chicken pasta was cooked to perfection with generous portions (please add more chicken thou) , and bursting with flavor. Everything arrived within 15 minutes, which was impressive given the quality of the food. The portions are big ( except more proteins), and you definitely get great value for your money. From what I could see on the menu, they offer a wide variety of authentic Turkish dishes including their famous grills (which other diners rave about - the meat is apparently cooked to perfection), plenty of salads for vegetarians, and amazing desserts. The food is well-prepared, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I have to give a special shoutout to Emma (not sure if that’s the correct spelling) gentleman who waited on me. He was an absolute gentleman - attentive, professional, and genuinely caring (p.s we bonded over his love for how big lagos is) . He was so particular about ensuring I was comfortable throughout my entire meal, checking in at just the right moments without being intrusive. This level of hospitality is what transforms a good meal into a memorable experience. The staff here clearly understands the meaning of excellent customer service, and it shows in every interaction. The atmosphere at UMUT is lively and vibrant, with a friendly, welcoming vibe. There’s background music playing which adds to the ambiance - though I will say, the music could be turned down just a notch. It’s a bit loud, especially if you’re trying to have a conversation. I’m guessing that’s the vibe they’re going for given the location and the energy of the place, but a slightly lower volume would make it perfect for all dining experiences. Despite the music volume, the overall atmosphere is great! It’s the kind of place where you can come to indulge in delicious food, enjoy good company, and feel genuinely welcomed. The energy is positive, the setting is comfortable, and you can tell this is a place that takes pride in what they do. Lastly, UMUT Cafe & Restaurant is one good l Turkish restaurants to visit in Kigali, so whether you’re craving Turkish cuisine, looking for a place with vegetarian options, or simply want to enjoy a meal where you’re treated like family, you should try UMUT. Pro tip: If you’re coming from the city center, use GPS to navigate to “Chic Building” or “UMUT Restaurant” to avoid getting lost. It’s worth finding.”
