“Ilba has truly fantastic products and very kind staff but has room to improve. A colleague recommended it to me, so I booked a reservation a week in advance and even called the morning of to confirm. I was asked to come in the afternoon due to umuganda, but when I arrived on time, I ended up waiting over 3 hours before being attended to. I was patient about it, but it did feel too long. When it came to my hair, I really appreciated the lovely products and how gentle they were while doing the twists, and the final result looked lovely. However, the detangling process was the main area of concern for me. I have 4C hair, and in my experience, it’s best handled by separating the hair in sections and finger-detangling first, then using a comb gently from the ends upward. Unfortunately, my hair was yanked straight through from the roots before shampooing, which was painful as I’m tender headed and caused unnecessary shedding. Throughout the wash and treatment process, my hair wasn’t sectioned or twisted, which made detangling more difficult than it needed to be in the end. After the final wash, I had to stop them and take my time to detangle my hair on my own because my scalp was hurting and being pulled out. My biggest suggestion would be to provide more training for staff on proper hair detangling techniques for kinkier hair textures and to reduce wait times for appointments. I also noticed that no heat protectant was being used on clients getting blow dries, which might be something to consider to avoid hair damage. I’d also recommend addressing cleanliness, as I did notice small roaches in the space, which was uncomfortable.”

“When I first came across Ilba hair page on instagram, I texted them wanting to buy their products, and they first consulted me on which products would work best for me, depending on my hair type, and the results I want to see. My hair was very damaged at that time, due to excessive heat so they recommended a trim, to get rid of the dead ends, and my hair is so much healthier now I’m definitely seeing a change in length and volume wise. And their staff are great people too, with great customer service and they absolutely know what they’re doing.”

“I loved the service from the beginning to end, i had a wash and silk press. I liked how gentle they were with my hair, HOWEVER, i would highly recommend to upgrade the tools used for silk press… they make the process painful. Otherwise, it was generally great.”
